"Preserving Our Industrial Heritage"

The Restoration Process

This is the Gerstner Model 42 as we found it.  Missing small drawer, front panel, and handle.
The interior was as bad as the exterior.  The plywood back was delaminating and had come off the case.

After the case came apart during sanding, it had to be completely re-assembled and glued, using traditional hide glue.

Custom string inlay was added to the top lid, drawer fronts, and the front panel, followed by many coats of shellac,

Hardware was polished, lacquered, and re-attached.  New felt was installed in all of the drawers.  New mirror and handle installed.  Ready for another 50 years.
